Why Regular Dental Visits Matter – Even If Your Diet & Hygiene Are Great

Aug 26, 2025

You eat beautifully. You take supplements. Your home care is excellent. You live the healthiest life you can. You might wonder: Do you really need to come see us for regular checkups and cleanings?

Certainly, when you’re doing so much right, these return visits might seem a little redundant. But even with conscientious self-care, there are some things that only we can do for you, such as remove stubborn calculus (hardened plaque). There are some things only trained eyes can detect early, such as oral cancer, subtle bite imbalances creating stress elsewhere in your body, or small shifts in your oral microbiome that need professional attention.

It’s like how you might maintain your car. Even with regular oil changes, quality fuel, and careful driving, you’d still take your vehicle in for those scheduled 15,000, 30,000, and 60,000-mile inspections in which a trained mechanic checks things you simply can’t assess yourself.

Those regular dental visits are also key to maintaining good overall health – something that was highlighted by a recent Gallup survey. Data from nearly 12,000 American adults showed that people who visit their dentist at least once a year report significantly better overall health and well-being than those who don’t.

Forty-two percent of those with annual dental visits rated their health as “excellent” or “very good.” Only 26% of those who hadn’t seen a dentist said the same. The benefits extended beyond physical health to daily energy, productivity, and life satisfaction, too.

And that aligns with something we regularly see in our patients when they finally address oral health issues that they may not have realized they had. We’ve had patients discover that addressing a subtle bite issue improved their sleep. Others found that removing old mercury amalgam fillings helped improve their emotional balance. Some have experienced more energy after replacing metal implants with biocompatible ceramic ones.

Think about it: The mouth affects how you speak, eat, breathe – even how you hold tension. When it’s functioning optimally, it supports everything else you’re doing for your health.

Your commitment to natural health creates the foundation for optimal oral health. The care we provide builds on that foundation, ensuring your efforts are as effective as can be and catching small changes before they have a chance to become large concerns.

And beyond all the benefit to you, there’s something else that we love about regular visits: the chance to catch up with you, hear about what you’ve been doing, how your family is, what new wellness practices you’re exploring. That connection matters to us. It’s a critical part of making healthcare more human and supportive.

You deserve this level of care.
